Recovery Move Recieved Guilford Foundation Grant

Guilford Foundation has awarded Recovery Move™ a grant supporting our scholarship program for teens and youth.

This grant was awarded in May of 2022 and will help us offer programs to teens in need this summer.

The recent grant awarded by the Guilford Foundation to Recovery Move™ in May 2022 marks a significant step forward in supporting the mental and physical health of teens and youth in the community. This grant, a part of a broader initiative by the Foundation, will enable Recovery Move™ to extend its unique, holistic exercise and recovery meeting programs throughout the summer, catering to the needs of young individuals who are navigating the complexities of life’s challenges.

Recovery Move™ stands out in the region for its innovative approach to wellness, combining physical exercise with recovery support in a nurturing environment. The program is designed to cater to a wide range of abilities, ensuring that every participant, whether a beginner or experienced, recovery or non-recovery athlete, feels included and supported. The workouts, tailored to individual abilities and led by experienced instructors, are more than just physical exercise sessions; they are a gateway to personal transformation and healing. The recovery meetings, facilitated by skilled counselors, provide a safe space for sharing, reflection, and growth. With a schedule that includes AL-ANON meetings on Tuesdays, CrossFit style workouts followed by AA meetings on Fridays, and inclusive workouts for all members on Saturdays, Recovery Move™ offers a comprehensive and accessible path to wellness for the community’s youth.

The Guilford Foundation’s commitment to community wellbeing is further exemplified in its 2023 grantmaking program. Distributing $109,200 to 28 community-serving organizations, the Foundation has significantly expanded its reach, with a notable 37% increase in applications from the previous year. This expansion reflects the Foundation’s dedication to addressing a diverse range of community needs, from mental health to basic necessities, all under the umbrella of strengthening community ties.

Among the 2023 grant recipients are organizations like Women and Family Life Center, Clifford W. Beers Guidance Clinic, and the Guilford Art Center, each receiving substantial grants for programs that directly impact the Guilford community. Recovery Move™ joins this prestigious list with a $5,000 grant, standing alongside other important initiatives like the Guilford Center for Children, Guilford ABAR Alliance, and Special Olympics Connecticut. Each recipient, with their unique focus, contributes to the holistic wellbeing of Guilford residents, embodying the Foundation’s theme of wellbeing and its commitment to mental health, basic needs, and community strengthening.

In summary, the Guilford Foundation’s grant to Recovery Move™ is a testament to the community’s dedication to fostering a supportive environment for its youth. By recognizing and funding a diverse array of organizations, the Foundation is not only addressing immediate needs but is also laying the groundwork for a more resilient and connected community.
